A crown is a custom cap that covers a damaged tooth, restoring its shape, strength and appearance.

Dental Crowns
Crowns are used when a tooth is too damaged for a filling — after a large cavity, a crack, a root canal, or significant wear. They can also improve the look of a misshapen or discolored tooth.
We use durable, tooth-colored materials shaded to match your smile, so your crown blends right in.
What to expect
The tooth is numbed and shaped to make room for the crown.
We record the tooth and your bite.
A temporary crown protects the tooth in the meantime.
Your permanent crown is fitted, adjusted and cemented.
Questions
With good care, crowns often last many years. Avoid chewing ice or hard objects, and wear a night guard if you grind.
The tooth is numbed during treatment. Some mild sensitivity afterward is normal and usually short-lived.
Back teeth especially benefit from a crown after a root canal to protect them from breaking.
